adopt

At CRCS, our dogs are family. We make every effort to get to know everything we can about each dog prior to making them available for adoption. Our goal is successful placement into a forever loving home.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations.

Adoption fees:

Our adoption application can be viewed and printed here CRCS Application for Adoption. We want all of our adoptions to be successful and therefore our process may be a little more extensive than other shelters and rescues. We ask that all family members and canine pals spend some time getting to know our dog before taking them home. We truly want a happy experience for the dogs and their new families.

**All visitations are by appointment only**

Thank you for wanting to adopt! An updated version of this page is COMING BACK SOON! Please contact CRCS to schedule an adoption consultation so we can help you find your perfect match. At any given time, we have 35-48 dogs we'd love to tell you about! Most, not seen here.

If you are interested in learning more about any of our dogs listed below, please contact us at 775.800.1906 or by email at info@crcsdogs.com.

Chloe

chloe5 chloe6 chloe7

Meet Chloe! Miss "Full Of Personality"! Oh, and a face that makes EVERYONE smile! Seriously, who can resist that squishy face! Chloe is a little shy around new people at first, but once you've invested some one on one time, she's your biggest fan! Chloe has lived in a home environment most of her life. She prefers mellow and quiet. She naps while you are gone or she might fling a toy around to keep busy. Chloe likes to ride in the car and is a joy to walk on a leash. She's polite and doesn't pull. She loves to get out and slowly explore her surroundings, sniff around, take her time. She's all in for more of an easy going outing vs miles of exercise. Hiking is great and all... for other dogs. It's not really her thing. A basic exercise routine away from the house, a yard to enjoy at home, and people to love. Her needs are pretty simple. Chloe does best with large, easy going male dogs or as an only dog. Older children OK. No small dogs or kitties please. This silly lady is ready to make you smile! Age 7 years old. 64 lbs.

Cogsworth

cogsworth2 cogsworth1 cogsworth3

Meet Cogsworth! This little man could not get any cuter...and he's got the personality to match! His facial scars may be a reminder of his past, but if you kneel down next to him, you'd never know he's got a crazy story to tell. He will literally jump in your lap and his tail will wag 100mph! He just met you and he is ready to be your main squeeze! He's THAT guy! Cogsworth is very small in size so we will be careful with his placement in order to keep him safe. Currently, Cogsworth enjoys lots of playgroups at CRCS with all the smaller dogs. As long as everyone is being treated fair, he's cool with it. He does get a little jealous when his peeps make the decision to hand out love to other dogs without his prior approval. We believe if you asked him his preference, he'd much prefer to be the only apple of your eye. And boy is he the perfect dog for that! This is one snuggly little dude! He absolutely loves to be with you and give you attention. Just look at his face or watch his little prance as he takes a walk and you can't help but smile. Looking for a lap companion? This is your guy! We absolutely love all the joy he brings! Age 10 years. 6 lbs.

Cotton ~ In Recovery

cotton1 cotton2 cotton3

Meet Cotton! Officials worked hard to bust a dog fighting case in Colorado. Once caught, the dogs were confiscated and court holds were placed as they worked through the legalities. Once the dogs were released, groups from across the country stepped in to help. After that, there were 11 dogs left. Experienced groups from the East to West coast stepped in. Of those last 11 dogs, all were taken but one. This guy. We were contacted by Best Friends Animal Society and asked to take the last boy standing. Cotton. We have a soft spot for the overlooked. And so here he is, ready to learn a new life. Beautiful.

Cotton is in recovery and will be spending some time in our program. We welcome this beautiful boy to a whole new life. We don't know exactly what he's experienced or what he knows about this world of ours. But we have BIG plans for him and can't wait to show him all that this amazing world has to offer! There is so much that he's yet to see and do. Our arms and our hearts are wide open. Let us get to work. Lean in Cotton. Life. Starts. Now. Cotton is just 2 years old. 46 lbs.

Meet Denali! Pretty, smart, affectionate, athletic and energetic! This little lady is ready for adventure! She has asked us to help her find a home that can provide companionship during the day and one that will help keep her active, stimulated, and engaged. She has a silly and talkative way about her. No shortage of personality here! Must be familiar with the needs of the breed, she is the definition of a Husky. Denali has been through a lot and more than anything, stability, consistency, exercise and connectedness are at the very top of her list. She is not a barker, but she does talk. She has stuff to say and is pretty expressive in her delivery! She seriously keeps us smiling! Sorry, Denali does not speak cat. As long as the environment is correct for her, children are OK. She loves people and attention. Active and looking for a companion? This might be your gal. Age 5 yrs. 45 lbs..

Emma

Meet Emma! Busy, silly, curious, and loving! She's a petite little girl with an eagerness to see the world and a desire to belong. Emma lived alone for years, without proper exposure to people, dogs, or life in general. Since coming to CRCS, this little lady has met new friends, gained confidence, learned how to walk on a leash, taken rides to the park, discovered lizards, toys, water and more! She is continuing to improve and has shown that with a proper introduction to anything new, she is able to overcome! Her personality brings a smile. Her outlook on life is simple - let's go check it out! There is so much to see and do! Emma's ideal environment will be active yet patient and calm. They will understand that each and every month, she will continue to transform and grow and learn what life is like with a family. Emma is used to open spaces so her preference would be a quiet neighborhood, spacious yard, people that are eager to slowly introduce her to all that the world has to offer! Emma has met lots of doggie friends here at the center. Her preference of dog personalities are those that don't bark at her on initial introduction. Bring it in slow (as with everything) and you'll see her eyes and heart open wide. She wants to love. Emma is on medication that will be life long but that doesn't hold her back in any way or affect her outlook on life! Adult only home please. Sorry, Emma does not speak cat. What a joyful, loving, sweet, funny, personality, ready to become part of a family. Finally, after a 5 year wait. Well deserved. Age 7 years. 43 lbs.

Google ~ In Recovery

google1 google2 google3

Meet Google! A man of much cuteness and many opinions! He'd like to describe himself as mature, wise, and a dog that knows what he wants. Because he's cute and fluffy, we think he may have grown up being treated that way. He is still in training and recovery here at the center but he's already told us that he'd really rather be treated like a dog, thank you very much! He's naturally a bit independent, not a snuggler. He loves being engaged by his people, going on long walks, exploring and he's really good at just chillin' inside as well. He's extremely clean with a mellow temperament. He is also very house-trained. He enjoys the company of many dogs here at the center. He does best with soft temperament dogs or independent dogs like himself. Should the right person come along, he would be ready to transition into his forever home. Meanwhile, he'll continue working on "dog stuff" until his forever match is found. Adult only home please. We love this little dude! Funny, chill, clean, easy to hang out with. Age 8 years. 17 lbs.

Hambone walks great on leash, loves car rides, going for walks on the beach, hanging out with staff at the facility, hiking the trails, and just being in the great outdoors. He loves people! We'll be posting more details and information about Hambone as soon as he's available for adoption. Hambone is 4 years old. 73 lbs.

Jessie

jessie8 jessie6 jessie7

Meet Jessie! Calm and silly with a kick back attitude. Jessie needs time to trust you and get to know you, but once you invest the time, she is just about the easiest dog on the planet! Her energy is so sweet, loving, mellow. She is clean, extremely house trained and a true couch potato while inside. A few of her VERY favorite things include sunbathing, laying down in her kiddie pool (the girl loves water), sitting on top of benches and tables so she can keep a look out and rolling around on the ground. Nothing like a good back scratch on the grass, concrete or muddy water! Yep. She's THAT girl! She'll keep you laughing and smiling. We absolutely promise! Jessie has asked us to help her find a very specific type of home. She would love nothing more than to find humans and an environment that match her mellow energy and love of the country. No concentrated neighborhoods thank you very much. The girl wants space, peace and quiet! Can't say that we blame her for that. Jessie has lived the shelter life for many years and now, she is ready to settle in with a person to love, protect, connect, nap (wink wink). She walks GREAT on a leash, loves riding in the car and is always up for a treat. We seriously love this dog! She's a volunteer favorite and she's ready to go home! Adults only please. 9 years old. 76 lbs.

Keaton

keaton1 keaton2 keaton3

Meet Keaton! Mr. Entertainment! His look, his personality, his funny ways... he'll keep you smiling. And couldn't we all use a little bit more of that? Keaton is very petite. He is also deaf and has some vision impairment, but before you put up your stop sign and start thinking how difficult that will be, let us share the benefits. Deaf dogs are easier to train and learn commands/hand signals quicker than dogs that can hear. Why? Because the #1 way that dogs communicate is through energy and body positioning. Not voice. The result is that they pick things up faster and look to their people for direction more (when trained to do so, of course) because they that's their preferred method of communication. One of the best ways to build a good foundation of trust and respect with your dog is by having them continually look to you for direction. We are building that foundation now with Keaton. Beautiful. Keaton is playful, curious, silly, energetic, and loving. He absolutely loves other dogs and gets right up next to people to offer affection. He is a joy to be around. Keaton does have some working breed DNA in there so exercise and structure are still very much needed. Special needs or not, most dogs, especially working breeds, are not fulfilled by having a big back yard. Keaton needs to get out and do! We have noticed that he is much happier when he is near a live body. We will be looking to place him in a home that either has someone at home during the day or someone that has other dogs he can pal around with. He asks to be around friends and have companionship. This is one silly boy and we are in LOVE with his funny ways! Age 1 year. 30 lbs.

Welcome Khaleesi! Bonded to her best friend, Vella. Khaleesi is a total love bug and charmer. She might be a tiny bit shy when she first meets you but after only a moment, she's in your lap with a big doggy grin, tail wagging happily, asking for pets and love. She is silly and sweet, a little more outgoing than her bestie, and will quickly steal your heart! Her energy brings a laugh and a smile. Khaleesi greets strangers well with a gentle hello. She is good with other dogs and has a great relationship with Vella in terms of sharing- itís a give and take. She absolutely loves her walks and is looking for a home that wants to enjoy daily outings with her (and her friend of course). We are wanting to keep these two together. Itís worth it, trust us! Lucky ~ In Recovery

Meet Lucky! This handsome guy isn't quite ready for his new forever home, but he's working hard here at the center and should be available soon. As he progresses through our program, we are learning all about his needs moving forward. We still have more to learn and help him through, but we are getting there! Lucky appears to be a little unsure at first, but for those that invest time and have a respectful approach, he begins to give, trust, and love. There is a beautiful, affectionate, smart and engaging personality in there! Lucky wants to please his person. More than anything, he seeks purpose and belonging. So far he is requesting an adult only home and to be an only pet. He has also asked us to help him find a home that is quiet and spacious yet one that will provide daily companionship and help keep him active both mentally and physically. Lucky will thrive in an environment where things are in control and that includes children and other animals. He LOVES space and has lived on 5 open acres previously with the ability to go to work with his dad everyday. We know that's hard to beat but somebody somewhere has a ranch or an incredibly active structured lifestyle that this boy can mesh right into. We just know it! He is craving a human connection and a job. Lucky rides well in the car and is well behaved in the home. If the above description is starting to sound like you, give us a shout! Lucky will continue working on things here at the center while we help him transition to a beautiful next chapter in his life! No children or pets please. Our goal is to keep our boy comfortable, happy and at his best! we love this dog! Age 3 years. 67

Mac

mac1 mac2 mac3

Meet Mac! Eager, loving, energetic, playful, and loyal. This goofball has come so far since he first arrived at CRCS! He joined us as an inexperienced 2 year old, confused about the world around him. Mac is learning about all what the world has to offer. He's meeting new friends, practicing his basic commands, learning loose leash walking, playing with toys, exploring and more. He has loosened up and is now ready to transition to his forever home. He takes some time to build trust with people, but once he does, he wraps his four paws around you like he'll forever be yours! He is extremely affectionate with those he knows and loves to play with younger dogs and dog friendly dogs. He is on a special training program here at the center and with calm leadership, he absolutely thrives and learns and loves! We invite you down to meet his trainers and learn how we've exposed him to life! His new adopter will need to carry it forward on so that Mac can continue to gain exposure and positive experiences! He is trying really hard not to chase the lizards and small critters, but we do believe there is some terrier in there telling him to "catch" "catch" "catch"! Sorry kitties, that will not go away! A kitty free home is the only home for Mac. Mac's ideal environment will have lots of space to run and play as well as a human that will help slowly expose him to new things. This is a beautiful boy with an eagerness to please his people! Though he has lived with children, the social, busy lifestyle that comes with having children would not be his ideal. We seriously love this kid! Come learn about Mac! Age 3 years. 72 lbs.

Pippi

pippi8 pippi9 pippi7

We have to be honest.... we aren't sure what breed this little cutie pie is! Truth be told Pippi is the size of a Beagle, the shape of a Corgi, has the hair coat of a Harbor Seal and the face of a lab mixed with a little something else! We do know this little girl is one pretty awesome dog! Don't be fooled by her funny shape, Pippi is a LITTLE dog. She weighs about 25 pounds and she's a short, stocky little fire-cracker. Pippi has sass and spunk and she's all about PLAY! In the home, Pippi does have good manners and knows when to kick back. She is however, an energetic little gal and her ideal environment will offer lots of space to run and play as well as an active owner that loves to hike/walk/explore. Pippi is currently in several play groups here at the center and though she loves to be social and play with other dogs, interactions with other dogs need to be structured. If you regular dog parks and busy public trails, Pippi says no thank you. She is at her happiest when she can take walks in spacious neighborhoods or explore off leash in open and nature filled places. This adorable girl is a fun-loving, toy chasing, fetching queen and will bring home the balls until the sun goes down. She is extremely affectionate with her people and always game for some fun! She is a snuggler! Pippi is looking for an adult only home. Age 5 years. 25 lbs.

Samson

samson1 samson2 samson3

Meet Samson! Holy personality! We are constantly smiling at this boy and his goofy ways. Once you get to know him, the funny is overflowing. Samson is working on a few things here at the center. His biggest strength... dogs. He's got the "good dog" energy and can put most dogs at ease with his sweet personality. He is very playful and engaging with other dogs with a soft and gentle approach. He absolutely loves to be with dogs and would prefer to live in a home with other canines. It makes him so happy! His current big project is learning about us crazy humans. We approach dogs head on, we talk loud, we reach for every dog we see, we stare straight into their eyes.... it's all very confusing and Oh-So opposite of how dogs prefer to communicate. Samson is trying to figure us all out. He is learning all about how to say "hi", how to approach and/or be approached, how to trust and how to be a dog in a human world. He is making such amazing progress! Once he gets past the initial introduction, he is loving, sweet, and submissive with his people. We believe any previous exposure to real world experiences and/or to people was extremely limited, so currently, he's working hard and making up for lost time! Wow what a world out there! Samson is expanding his social circle, walking on a leash beautifully, enjoying play groups, large doggie group walks and practice, practice, practice. The very good news is, this boy is slowly letting go of the old associations and embracing the new. We are so proud of him! Our team will provide you with all the support you need to help this beautiful energy transition into the real world. His new human will need to slowly gain his trust and then slowly expose him to life. He doesn't take long, he is young and eager. A calm, loving, patient person willing to use us as your support crew is all this guy needs! Got another dog that can be his BFF and have the desire to truly change a life? This is a wonderful opportunity to rescue. Your biggest fan club is right here... CRCS. We got you! Samson is 1.5 years old. 33 lbs.

Shadow

shadowpug1 shadowpug2 shadowpug3

Meet Shadow! Gentle, calm, loving, and affectionate. This boy will greet all people with a gentle tail wag and a calm yet friendly hello! He has a wonderful temperament that makes it easy to get to know him and spend time with him. He walks beautifully on the leash and truly enjoys getting out to sniff and explore the trails. He is also a huge advocate of snuggle time and will gladly help you watch your favorite show while hanging out on the couch. Whatever your activity, he'd love to join! He is house-trained and well mannered in the house. Shadow does have some spacial sensitivities with other dogs so appropriate greetings and respectful hellos are critical to his success in terms of dog to dog time. He is non-reactive on the trails and does well in public places, just asks that other dogs are respectful of his space and he will offer the same in return. Will do best as an only dog. Shadow does good in the car and would absolutely love being included on family activities. His energy level is fairly calm for his age. He will do just fine with an average daily walk and a nice yard to enjoy some off leash time. An absolute joy to spend time with. No small children please. Age 3 years. 15 lbs.

Smokie

Looking for the perfect dog? Keep on looking. Smokie will be the first one to tell you... there are a lot of things he doesn't like, some things he likes only some of the time, and other things he loves to the moon and back! This is a guy that knows what he wants, when he wants it, and he'll shoot it to you straight. Quirky? Or maybe he wears his emotions on his sleeve. Either way, he embraces it with complete confidence and maybe a grrrrrrr and a smile. On the flip side, for those he loves, he gives his full heart and wants nothing more than to be by your side. More than anything in the world, Smokie craves a person to call his very own. He is looking for a single human seeking companionship, someone that will include him on outdoor activities. We'll give him credit, he is being pretty patient about holding out for just the right one. He did want us to mention that he'd be willing to overlook your quirks if you can overlook his. He knows he isn't perfect, but he does have some pretty perfect qualities when it comes to stuff he likes! Smokie is an absolute joy to take hiking and he is at his best when he's out on the trails, sniffing around and investigating his surroundings! He also LOVES to take car rides or he'll happily hang out with you and watch your favorite show. If you're looking for a guy that will stick with you through thick and thin, will tell it to you straight without the sugar coating, and will give his full heart to you and only you, come meet our man Smokie! Cute as a button (don't tell him we said that) and tough as nails (you can tell him we said that). Looks good in a sweater too! One he likes that is... 8 yrs old. 19 lbs.

Meet Synder! Once she knows you, she is sweet, silly, playful, loving and affectionate. Synder LOVES her people, the water, long hikes and playing with other dogs! The first year of her life left a pretty big impression on her and we've been working hard to help her overcome since that time. It takes a lot of consistent work to turn that around and she is getting there! We are so proud of this little lady! Her ideal home will need to be active but not socially busy. A home with people visiting frequently will make it very hard for her to continue to overcome. Synder is good with dogs and very loving towards people she knows. He's going to need more than a loving human and a yard. Like a big boy, he'll need to get out of the house and do! He has lots of energy and would truly enjoy long walks, exploring the trails and experiencing new things! Due to his size, we will be careful placing him in a home that has neighbors with large dogs or those that live out in the country. We love this boy and want to keep him safe! Will is 4 years old. 9 lbs.

Willow

willow4 willow5 willow6

Meet Willow! Intelligent, lover of dogs, independent, agile, athletic, and an excellent canine communicator. This pretty lady is our "go to" for behavior work and training here at CRCS. She has helped more dogs in our facility (CRCS residents and dogs that come to us for training) than we can begin to describe. It is her job here and she loves it. Her past is that of survival and disconnectedness. After many months in our program, Willow has asked us to help her find something very specific in her forever home and we are working hard to find it! She connects to dogs first and foremost. Her ideal home will have multiple dogs in the home because she needs a "pack". It is the key to her success as it will keep her fulfilled, grounded and at home. And we do mean that literally. She plays an important role in the pack and she takes her job seriously. She is the peacemaker, the calm, the leader, the teacher. She keeps it light, respectful, direct and loving. Willow is truly unique and special. Sorry, Willow is not a family dog or a dog for a room-mate setting. It will take time for her next "family" to build a relationship with her while she stays at CRCS, then it will take time to transition her home. In order for her to succeed, she will need a bond with all humans and canines in the home before actually going home. Willow is a wise and beautiful soul. Services provided for Willow for life. Age 5 years. 42 lbs.

Zeke

zeke1 zeke3 zeke4

Meet Zeke! Athletic, playful, silly, curious! Zeke is a gorgeous young pup with a "let's get out and explore" attitude! He has quite a story to tell... Zeke has been through 3 owners that we know of. While with one of his adopters, he was hit by a car and his leg was so badly damaged, with multiple fractures, it could not be saved. His owner brought him to a vet and surrendered him. The hospital saved the dog, performed the surgery, amputated the leg, and days later he was transferred to CRCS. Zeke is a very social guy around both people and dogs. He is very affectionate with his people and once he is bonded, he is smart, easy to train, loyal and can be protective. Having 3 legs hasn't slowed him down a bit thank you very much! He can run, play, jump, dash and do all the things all the other dogs do. He loves to get out for walks and is already well adapted to being a tripod. Zeke loves other dogs and wants to play with every new dog he meets. Sorry, Zeke needs a kitty free home. He's a beautiful boy inside out! Age 4 years. 53 lbs.

Zeus

zeus1 zeus2 zeus3

Say "hello" to Zeus! Zeus has chronic (long term/ongoing) kidney disease. We are looking to find a foster/adopter/hospice as soon as possible. He is young, only 1.5 and could potentially have months to a year left. We would love for him to live in a home environment and experience family while he is still active. He is goofy, playful, silly and full of life at the moment. You'd never know he was sick. Here at CRCS he is enjoying playgroups with other dogs every day, jogs with one of our team members, gets out for 3 separate walks/outings daily and is enjoying an off-site car ride and hike once a week. We'd love for that to continue, but in a home environment. He LOVES the water, loves to run, loves to play and will keep you laughing with his silly ways! His diet is critical- CRCS will provide his special food and pay for all medical care. Additional support will be provided to his foster in the way of Day Camp, sleepovers, behavior help and training support if needed, hospice when needed. Zeus has been good with dogs and quite playful, however for certain reasons, we are looking for a family with no other animals and an environment where he can have human company during the day. Contact info@crcsdogs.com if you might be willing to open your home and your heart to Zeus. What a gift. Let's get this boy home so he can enjoy his time! Zeus is just 1 year old. 65 lbs.

All of our sanctuary dogs have a home with us for life and we are committed to making CRCS the best possible 'home away from a real home' that we can for these deserving dogs. Unfortunately, due to limited space and resources we do not have any additional openings for sanctuary dogs at this time.

Pinky

Pinky is a beautiful old soul that bonds strongly with her people. They bring her pure happiness and peace. She has a naturally calm, sweet, and gentle disposition yet has good enough energy to enjoy long walks and hikes. Pinky is a huge fan of car rides, trips to the park, her snake toys - as you can see by her pictures, and lazy strolls where she can sniff the bushes and flush out birds. She is a staff and volunteer favorite with a fan club of her very own!

A few photos of Pinky at the park taken by our team.

Sprinter

Sprinter grew up in the shelter, from puppyhood to adulthood, so EVERYTHING is an adventure! Sprinter's challenge is learning to trust new and different people. To help Sprinter out, we have a great group of volunteers working on expanding his social circles. Every day he gets to practice his skills around other dogs and new people. Our crew takes him on car rides, out to the play yard to splash in the water and for and hikes on the trail. Sprinter has shown us what a character he is and has demonstrated his fondness for all things mud and dirt!

A few photos of Sprinter enjoying himself taken by our team.

Scarlet

Scarlet became a member of the CRCS family a few years ago and is improving every month. Slowly but surely, she is making big strides in her recovery. Scarlet survived being hit by a car. She had a shattered hip and no one knew it for 10 days. We can only imagine the pain she was in. She also survived an owner that thought caring for a dog meant tying them to a tree, isolated for years. Scarlet was also a victim of a hoarding situation, living in a crate inside an RV garage for 3 years with 26 other screaming dogs surrounding her.

Today, Scarlet is experiencing all kinds of new and different people and taking car rides to "help" run errands, go on hikes and practice every day dog activities. She is the official CRCS mascot ... She is an AMAZING helper and our permanent co-pilot!

A few photos taken of Scarlet having fun at CRCS.
